Thermal Transfer Ribbon
N 451 FG
is a black wax/resin quality that fluoresces yellow/green under UV light (wavelength ± 365 nm). It is thus possible to check the authenticity of the print with simple means, a small LED UV lamp, and to increase the counterfeit protection. The ribbon was developed for Near-edge printers, but can also be used on flat-head printers.
The development of this grade was about increasing the security of railway tickets on cardboard material against counterfeiting. It prints very well on vellum, coated and glossy papers. The paper and board materials to be printed should not contain optical brighteners in order not to overlay the colour change effect from black to yellow/green.
Printing on foils is possible – but has only a low resistance.
The N 451 FG can be used where it is necessary to increase the counterfeit resistance of valuable printed documents. This can be in the field of product labelling: e.g. protection against counterfeiting for branded products or in the health sector, but also for monetary documents such as admission and transport tickets, ID cards.
Under sunlight, the UV-activable pigments decompose relatively quickly, over the course of a few months. Protected from sunlight, the colour change under UV light is still very visible after years.
